I’m an award-winning ad writer. I’m an online dating profile writer (trained to get you noticed). I also write the only dating blog about men, women and ads.
In recent news, North Carolina outlawed same sex marriage. Obama supported it. Limbaugh chimed in too, of course – probably while sucking on a cigar, the biggest phallic symbol ever. Personally, I find it ironic that a civil rights violation can be upheld by law, while an act of love is outlawed (and people are worried about the institution of marriage being destroyed?). As such, this week’s dating blog is dedicated to gay loving and loving gays.
Arguments against same-sex marriage I came across an article on About.com that debunks some of the common myths about gay marriage. For instance, it would destroy the institution of marriage. Hummm…those damn gay couples must be the reason why, according to Margaret Johnson of WXll News, 755,000 residents of North Carolina are divorced. An article in the Huffington Post suggests that North and South Carolina are among the regions that have the highest divorce rates in the US. Oh, wait a minute, that can’t be right – gay marriage isn’t legal there. Another argument is that same-sex marriages would mean that gay people could adopt. For starters, they already can. For another, that’s a bad thing?
The Pros and Cons of Same Sex Marriage.
I found an interesting article on proCon.org, a site that promotes critical thinking and informed citizenship. I didn’t realize that the American Psychological Association supports gay marriage. It has research indicating that children of gay couples are on par psychologically, cognitively and socially as children raised by heterosexuals.
Gays in Advertising
Kenneth Cole has done very tasteful ads designed to appeal to the liberal minded. I like that he’s an advertiser who uses ads to promote himself, but also to promote a broader, positive message. This ad is part of a campaign. I found another that showed a lesbian couple wearing gorgeous Kenneth Cole footwear.
When it comes to dating profiles, I encourage you to express key aspects of your character, whether it’s your lifestyle, favorite foods, or passion for politics. If you’re a right-wing conservative who would not fit with a left-wing liberal, it’s okay to say so. Just do it in a positive and respectful way.
Making who “you” are clear online helps weed out poor matches right off the top. I don’t suggest you go on political rants – or rants of any kind. I do suggest that you positively express what, essentially, are your deal breakers.
Lastly, whether you’re gay or straight, if you’re online dating and looking for love, you need to have all the competitive tools possible. A few great photos are your first line of defense. However, looks are not enough. A great profile gives you that extra edge and that’s where my training has real value. I use subtle ad techniques (no hard sell) to craft online dating profiles that help you get noticed among the millions of online dating profiles out there.
Get started by completing the personality quiz. It costs nothing to do, but will help you uncover some of those unique aspects.
