This week, I’ve looked at a number of dating profiles written by single men and women who are online dating in New York.
Thus far, I’ve written two blogs where, based on my marketing expertise, I critique an excerpt from an arbitrary dating profile (though I do change it slightly for the sake of anonymity).
This is an excerpt from the dating profile of a single woman in her late 30’s:
LIVE LIFE LOVE Hmmmm…..I’m fun love to laugh .. Love going to dinner or love too cook n stay in with a bottle of wine n cuddle or maybe have some friends over n entertain. DO NOT CONTACT ME FOR A THREESOME !
First, she has the heading “Live Life Love”, which truly puts me into a coma. Most boring line ever and so cliché, as is “I love to laugh”. Rather than rely on banalities, say what makes you love to laugh. Provide a fun anecdote.
She also loves going out to dinner or staying in to cook. So, essentially, she’s happy to eat anywhere. It’s a broad statement and not unique.
Also, what’s with the “n”? Just write “and”. It’s all of two more characters.
Lastly, there’s no need to end her profile with a crass statement. If the wrong people are contacting her then she should rethink the photos she has up which, by the way, are all pretty risqué. Wow, I sound so prudish! Truly though, when you’re online dating, you have realize that you’re talking to virtual strangers. As such, even though you need to be conversational, you can’t be as familiar in your approach as you would if you were talking to friends.
