It’s not unusual for me to find poorly crafted dating profiles on free sites. I suspect that, when its free, people feel they don’t have much to lose if they don’t try too hard.
Still, free or not, if you’re going to put yourself out there, you may as well do it properly. Today I’m featuring a woman’s dating profile that I found on okCupid. It has one big glaring mistake that many people make (though not quite to this degree) and it’s important to address.
From the dating profile of a 48-year old woman.
I’m not perfect but if you can’t write something about yourself without checking your spelling or if you have to type like my teenage nephew texts then we probably aren’t going to get along.
My critique.
She sounds like a hag. Honestly, her profile was fairly uneventful until I reached the end and saw this negative approach to weeding out wrong matches.
I think it’s important to say what you want. Often, in doing so, it’s pretty clear what you don’t want. If, however, you need to more clear then at least do it without being insulting.
Why not just take a positive spin and say something like: On a final note, I sure like a man who spell checks and writes real words.
Another suggestion is to weigh out the benefit of including a negative versus just turning down those people who don’t meet what you’re looking for? Sometimes the damage of being negative outweighs the benefit to you.
For an online dating profile that works.
A good profile discourages wrong matches from thinking they have a chance with you. So, rather than risk being negative, hire me to craft your profile so that it weeds out the wrong ones without turning off the right ones.
First I ask questions that help me uncover some of your more interesting anecdotes. Then I use your answers and words to craft your dating profile so that it not only represents you positively, but honestly too.
Check out my online dating samples and see for yourself or just get started by completing the personality questionnaire and sending your answers to me. You’ll be amazed at what I can do with them.
