Online Dating Advice
I regularly review excerpts from random dating profiles (for anonymity). Pointing out dos and don’ts from real profiles can help you improve on your own personal branding.
Online Dating Profiles: Tips 20 and 21.
How to write a great online dating profile? Below you’ll find two excerpts from online dating profiles followed by critiques of each one. As an ad writer and marketing expert, I use this blog to provide pertinent tips based on marketing techniques I’ve learned over the past 20 years. Boomers and online dating. Grow up!
Some things are predictable. For instance, it’s predictable that any celebrity who does the rocker hand gesture, especially on both hands, will eventually get a DUI, make gay slurs and end up in rehab. It’s also predictable that, for every Dr. Phil and Dr. Oz, there will also be a Dr. Drew Pinsky to turn pain into self-serving sensationalism. Also predictable are: Sarah Palin and her little bus will go down in history, but she’ll know nothing about it; the… read more →
Should online dating industries show more heart?
I have – or rather, had – a hidden account on one of the free dating sites. I do this to keep informed. At one point, I had a question about privacy that wasn’t addressed in its FAQs. I wrote to Customer Service several times, but never received a reply. Eventually I included the question on my profile, which was then submitted for approval. Despite the fact that the revised profile was approved – and presumably read – the question… read more →

How to be more successful at online dating.
When I was online dating, I saw the profile of a really good-looking man. Good news – we shared countless interests! He liked to cycle, rollerblade, swim, hike, ski, kayak and, generally, play outside. So did I – what a match (did I mention he was good-looking?). There was just one teeny hitch. He made it very clear – and I mean in no uncertain terms – that he played outside day and night, dusk until dawn, 365 days a… read more →

How to Write a Dating Profile: Tips 14 and 15.
This is the first of the week’s two blogs. As always, this first blog critiques excerpts from two dating profiles that I’ve found on dating sites. It’s the more “dating” focused blog. The blog I post at the end of every week is more entertaining and, though it uses online dating to make a point, it actually addresses broader aspects of self-promotion. Both blogs provide insight into self-marketing. How to write a dating profile, tip 14 I am not into… read more →
Online dating and fear of failure.
When I was in high school, I considered countless activities to be more compelling than attending class. Helping Faye Cotton pluck her unibrow was endlessly fascinating. Imitating my French teacher’s pout until my best friend urinated was highly entertaining. Another distraction was sitting in the cafeteria crushing oreos cookies, adding them to milk, then drinking it all down through a strawberry Twizzler (ingeneously transformed into a straw). In my defense, I was a teenager. I’ve intellectually evolved since then. My… read more →
Online Dating Profiles. The Agony, Part 22.
Another week, another installment of Online Dating Profiles. The Agony. Once again I feature some of the most outrageous online dating profiles that I’ve seen while scanning dating sites. Often the ones I feature are filled with rants. This week, they’re just all harmlessly nutty – though really nutty… deliciously nutty actually. Before reading further, I’d just like to assure you that I scanned dozens upon dozens of profiles, from all across the states, before landing on these. In other… read more →
How to Write a Dating Profile: Tips 12 and 13.
I post blogs twice a week. At the beginning of the week, I post a blog that critiques excerpts from two (anonymous) dating profiles that I’ve found on dating sites. The blog is specific to dating profiles, however the critiques are based on my 20 years of experience as an ad writer and marketing expert. At the end of the week, I post a more entertaining blog with a broader focus on self-promotion. So check back for that one on… read more →
