At the start of every week, I post a blog that critiques two excerpts from online dating profiles that I happened to come across while scanning various dating sites. As a marketing expert and ad writer, I’m trained to know what works and what doesn’t when it comes to marketing yourself with written word. I hope my feedback helps you in your own efforts.
For a blog that’s both helpful and entertaining, be sure to check back this Friday when I post the next installment of the Agony series, where I feature some of the most outlandish online dating profiles that I’ve seen over the week. In the meantime, I hope this provides value:
How to write a dating profile, tip 8:
Started this profile writing under “dating”..changed it to ” Relationship” ultimately this is what I am searching for on this site, but knowing that it starts with a meeting, moves to a date..and another..until time has passed and you realize, you have found that person. I am young at heart and physically fit and enjoy the outdoors, hiking, biking, walking, running, blading,…the list goes on..
I chose this profile because I’ve noticed that a lot people – not just this person – begin their profile in this way. Yet, explaining the mental process you went through when filling out your profile is by no means interesting. This is especially true when you unnecessarily explain that a “relationship” starts with dating. Everyone knows that.
In addition, “I am young at heart” is a cliché and one that only older people use. As such, while you’re suggesting that you’re youthful, you’re sounding old.
How to write a dating profile, tip 9:
Just checking out this site. I could write a bunch of really nice things about myself, but, you have probably read alot of interesting profiles full of nice things. The proof is in the pudding and chatting on the phone or a face to face will tell if we bring out the good side of each other.
So basically this person writes a few lines about how he could write nice things, but won’t because everyone writes nice things. Hence, he expects you to just gi straight to a call or a meeting, while skipping over any chance of learning anything about him that would warrant such interest. Good lord.
That’s it for this week’s critiques. Check back Friday for the Agony series.

If you want to start crafting a better profile right now, get started on uncovering some of your unique traits by completing the personality quiz. It costs nothing to do, but it’s an important first step in writing an online dating profile that stands out. Once you’ve completed it, you can incorporate some the best answers into your dating profile, or you can hire me to do it. I’m trained to know what to pick and where to put it.
