Men’s Dating Profiles. Writing Tips for Nov. 21, 2013.

POFToday I’m featuring an excerpt from a dating profile that I found on POF.It’s typical of a lot of men’s dating profiles so I’m hoping that the critique will resonate with you.

Excerpt from the dating profile of a 52-year old man.

Just checking this out. I like to sing ballads and any other kind of music that inspires me. I also like to go to the gym. I love great food and lots of it…. I live to laugh and make people laugh.

My critique.

At 52 years old, this man has to have more interesting things to say just because of life experience alone. Yet, he barely shares anything.

On one hand, I think it’s great that he didn’t list an abundance of interests. The few that he has is perfect. However, he needs to expand on them. If he loves great food – and lots of it – then he should take the opportunity to mention some favorite dishes or restaurants.

What about music? If he likes to sing, perhaps he could share some of his favorite songs or, if he has an unusual amount of songs on his iTunes, then perhaps he can give us some fun stat.

The dating profile is far too short (an ideal length is 250 words) and doesn’t make him come alive.

A final word about writing your online dating profile.

I post critiques of online dating profiles (men’s profiles and women’s profiles) on a regular basis. I select ones that have common mistakes to keep you from making them yourself.

Still, why not avoid mistakes altogether by hiring me? As an ad writer and marketing expert, I’m trained to find your unique traits and I know how to present them in an engaging way.

I also use your words and anecdotes to do it so that you go online with an honest representation.

Check out my online dating profile samples and see for yourself. Better yet, get started by completing the personality questionnaire and then submit your answers to me.
