Online dating for couch potatoes.

Whiskey, the world

Is there anything more appealing than a man stretched out on a couch and wearing sweats? When I scan dating profiles and see photos of men kicking back on their sofas, I can’t help but think, “George Clooney and his elegant suits be damned! I want a man as yummy as Jim Belushi!”

Yes, I’m being facetious.

Men, if you want to attract a woman, I suggest you put a little more effort into looking attractive.

Women, our gender doesn’t fare much better. I actually saw a profile picture of a woman in purple crocs and red sweats who wrote, “I don’t wear makeup and I’m low maintenance”. No kidding.

Though there’s no explanation for certain fashion statements, I think some people post outrageously casual photos because they don’t want to appear as though they’re trying too hard to find someone. As a result, they look as though they couldn’t care less if they did.

I once had a client who didn’t want her ads to look “too” good. She believed that if people saw how little she invested in her advertising, they’d assume her money went to ensuring her products had quality. Even as I write this, I shake my head at her logic. Before the ads ran, I tried to explain to her – again – that they looked cheap and her store would, therefore, appear cheap. Needless to say I was right. I was right…Sorry, did I say, “I was right” twice? My apologies…ahem.

Anyway, this client ended up attracting customers who couldn’t care less about quality or value; they wanted discounts and deals. In the end, the customers were disappointed, as was she.

Photos speak volumes about a person. They deliver messages that are just as relevant as the written section of your online dating profile. So before you post photos of yourself kissing iguanas on the lips, wiping food off your mouth, or drenched in sweat after a run – ask yourself what your online dating photos say about you.
