Online Dating Profile. The Agony, Part 6.
To quote the warnings prior to most HBO shows: The following content is not suitable to all audiences. Seriously, if you have unshakeable faith in humanity then this, the 6th installment of a weekly series, may cause you irreversible damage. I don’t want that on my conscience. Once again I’m featuring excerpts from some of the most remarkable online dating profiles I’ve seen while scanning various dating sites throughout the week. As always, I want to make clear that… read more →
Your online dating profile is not a diary!
Every day, I’m struck by how many people use online dating profiles as an opportunity to whine about the trials of finding love. I saw several headlines that asked, “Are all the good guys taken?” I saw still others that said, “Tired of the players”. I saw one that said, “Don’t want to be hurt again”. Ugh. Victims, sooooo sexy. It seems that the depressing quest for love is not limited to older people who’ve spent years looking. The other… read more →
Dating profiles and the funny truth about humor.
One day, a colleague and I presented a major campaign that took us weeks of sleepless nights to complete. As we wrapped up the presentation, the room went silent. We stood there, anxiously awaiting the client’s reactions. Seconds passed slower than the time it takes for David Carusso to remove his sunglasses. Finally, she spoke. “Ummm”, she said, “like…you know when you go shopping for a pant suit? And you just can’t find it? This is like that.” She then… read more →
Dating profiles and the dumb things women do.
As one who writes a blog about men, women and dating, I admit I’ve written more than a few blogs about some of the less intellectually evolved things men do. So, to be fair, I’ll dedicate this dating blog to bashing my own beloved gender. What dumb things do women do? Well, for starters, women like to give the silent treatment, which is akin to opening a beer with your teeth while wearing lingerie. Seriously, how many men do you… read more →
411: ur online dating profile is not a txt mssg!!
Some profiles are the written equivalent of a Mike Tyson interview. Can’t people write in full sentences anymore? Why are so many online dating profiles a few abbreviations short of comprehensible? I was on three major dating sites today: okCupid, Match.com and Plenty of Fish – all have a large base of fairly mainstream people. Yet, on every one of these online dating sites, I found dating profiles that were missing vowels, consonants and the basic principles of written… read more →
What’s more embarrassing than online dating? Being David Hasselhoff, for starters.
The other day, my niece gave me a book that had a quote from David Hasselholf. It was, “There are many dying children out there whose last wish it is to meet me.” If I were David, I’d be so embarrassed by that quote. Then again, if you’re David Hasselhoff you’re probably protected by misguided narcissism and don’t really know you should be embarrassed, in the same way that William Shatner probably feels no shame for his tour de force… read more →
Does your online dating profile sound as though you’ve had a wee bit too much Red Bull?
No matter what online dating site I scan, I find dating profiles that list so many activities, that they sound like a commercial for Red Bull, or tampons for that matter. I run. I jog. I swim. I dance. I kickbox. I ski. I climb. Ugh. And I bet they do all that without a single cramp. Lists like that can lose the audience. They’re dull. I’d rather listen to someone with echolalia (a speech disorder where someone repeats… read more →
Online dating and saying thank you.
You’re online dating. There are millions of choices out there yet somehow, among them, someone sees you. They send an email. It’s friendly. It’s classy. It sounds crafted to you instead of being generic. What do you do? If you’re interested, you write back. If you’re not interested, and you’re like most people, you move it to the trash. Lovely behavior. You must be so proud. Ironically, I bet you probably think there are a lot of jerks out there,… read more →
Best online dating device since the block button? Spell check!
Have you ever tried conversing with someone whose soul patch is slightly off center? That person may be as witty as David Sedaris and as profound as Maya Angelou but it’s the patch, not the titillating conversation, that keeps your attention. Spelling mistakes and typos on your online dating profile are just as distracting. They drive me crazy in the same way that a wee bit of chalk left over on a improperly erased blackboard drives me crazy (grade school… read more →
The evidence is in: singles dating online love life.
I’m feeling unusually warm and fuzzy today. I was on match.com and read several dating profiles that said “I love life”, one even said “More importantly, I love life.” The emphasis was inspired. I then visited Plenty of Fish and saw several more dating profiles with the same sentiment. Not to be outdone, one man said “I absolutely love life.” Wow, that’s love for sure. According to the July 2010 edition of Lonely Planet, one of the happiest places on… read more →
