Online dating. The sizzle and fizzle.
Kevin Kokoska, a friend of “trysweettalk” offered to do a guest post for this week’s dating blog. I love what he’s written. It’s a refreshingly insightful and honest male perspective about maturity, self-reflection, accountability and class. Women and men can learn from it. Thanks Kevin for contributing your work, as well as your wonderful point of view. A first date, a hug, a second date, an awkwardness, a week of mutually uninspired text messages, silence. This is where it usually ends,… read more →
A dating blog about bunnies, eggs and Gloria Steinem.
As a copywriter, the months leading up to Easter are spent creating ads that target children. As such, with the exception of much-loved breaks I get from crafting dating profiles, I’ve been immersed in bunnies and eggs – not to mention more pastel than anyone outside of a nursery should have to see. So, to achieve a comfortable balance, I’ve written a dating blog with my own unique take on the Easter. As with all my dating blogs, you don’t… read more →
Are men the new dumb blondes?
I write ads. I write dating profiles. I also write LinkedIn profiles. As such, I follow sites like thegrindstone.com, which offers solid advice to working women. The other day, it featured an interesting article discussing the wisdom of including a passion for your career on your dating profile. My advice was quoted, as was expert advice of others. Here are some of their insights: For men, attraction does not come from watching a woman succeed. Include the industry you work… read more →
Online dating with Rush, Rick and contraceptives.
I write ads. I write dating profiles based on ad techniques. I also write the only dating blog about men, women and marketing. My blogs are often inspired by stories that move me. For instance, it’s bad enough that Rush Limbaugh called a woman a slut, but I’m shocked that he’s allowed to call some poor woman “wife” on a daily basis. As such, I thought I’d do a blog about men, women and words that cross a line. However, before I… read more →
Online dating, free dinners, and ethics.
I just read about Jessica Sporty, a 23-year old woman who subscribed to match.com for the sole purpose of getting free dinners. This deceptive, childish and self-entitled behavior led to countless articles about her ethics. As you might expect, many people were horrified and outraged by her behavior. This article questions the legitimacy and logistics of the story. Of all the articles I read, it’s my favorite because it’s not as quick to comment as it is to question. I… read more →
Singles and Dating in Wales
This blog has been paid for. However, I visited the site and like it. The navigation is easy, plus there’s good reading on it, Kate. SINGLES DATING IN WALES Niche Dating Site for Welsh Singles There are several factors that can indicate that a product or service has moved from niche to mainstream, most of the factors are technical, for example the amount in Billions of pounds the industry turns over each year and there are commonsense factors such as… read more →
Demi & Ashton. Can we stop calling it cougar dating?
The other day Joy Behar tweeted about the impending divorce between Demi Moore and Ashton Kushter. Her tweet made a glib reference to Kushter being “grounded” (as in – sent to his room). I replied to the tweet with an equally glib, “I think it’s called minors emancipation”. At the time, I thought I was being clever. I since regret the callousness and prejudice of my words. In effect, I was making snide commentary about their age difference, which has… read more →
mature dating sites
I hope you enjoy this guest post from a friend of mine who just launched a great new site. Thanks Nick! Online dating sites have become an everyday part of life for those who are single or for those simply looking for a new partner. There’s now a complete array of dating sites on the net, from the naughty to the religious. In fact, it seems that dating sites cater to every aspect of human society these days, and one… read more →
Kate Houston on NPR’s Marketplace.
Why would NPR’s Marketplace be interested in online dating? Because it’s all about marketing yourself. Kate Houston talks about how ad techniques are what you need to stand out and compete online. Please note: prices and levels of service have changed since this broadcast. http://www.onlineprofilewriter.com/wp-content/uploads/Marketplace-Morning-Report-04_50-for-November-23-2010.mp3
I love a good rant, but on a #dating profile?
Seeing a rant on a dating profile is wrong in the same way that Denis Leary writing Hallmark greetings would be wrong. The two don’t fit. Believe me, I too think that women with doggie strollers, men with fake tans, and serial daters are great feed for a rabid ranter but save it for friends or blogs. Dating profiles are for attracting suitors. Rants, while hilarious, are not the new sweet nothings.
