Online dating profiles and the beauty of imperfection.
I remember writing a slogan for a new telecommunications company. They were relatively small, but very innovative. The slogan made it clear that the reason they were so innovative was because they were small enough to be flexible and responsive to new technology. The marketing team and I went through layers of presentations where we worked our way up from the client’s junior staff to its senior management. Every presentation had gone incredibly well. Everyone felt good about how the… read more →
Could your dating profile be saying, “I’m socially inept”?
Some things…actually – many things – mystify me. For instance, what’s underneath Justin Beiber’s fringe and why hasn’t anyone told him not to do the sideways gangsta peace sign while wearing a preppy purple cardigan. Also, what casting agent was delusional enough to pair up gorgeous Julie Benz with Michael Chiklis as his wife on No Ordinary Family? While I’m at it – Kate Gosselin and Sarah Palin go camping??? Huh? Another mystery to me is profiles that say, “Want… read more →
Looking for a good-hearted woman or an honest man? So is everyone else who’s dating online.
Good lord, where are all the good-hearted women? I see so many men’s dating profiles looking for this particularl type of female that I wonder if they really are that elusive. I remember trying to complete a product ad for a client who directed absolutely every detail of it. She wanted the color green replaced by red. She wanted a bolder font and a larger logo. She even began asking if she could replace certain words with other, very similar words. I finally suggested that she buy a thesaurus and revise the ad herself. I learned two things from this experience: 1) When you get fired, the jeans you really really… read more →
Biggest complaint by men dating online? Endless emails. Dumbest complaint? Endless emails.
Dumb things men do: They try to fix a woman’s problems rather than nod their heads and listen. They start renovation projects when there’s nothing to renovate. They learn to play guitar because they think it’ll make them look cool, thus never considering how it will make them sound. Or worse, they play air guitar. A lot of them also sign up for online dating only to assert on their dating profiles that they don’t like endless emails. That’s like… read more →
